COLLIN COUNTY, Texas — The lead pastor of a North Texas church has resigned after confessing "to sexual sin and moral failure," the church confirmed in a letter.

John McKinzie, the former lead pastor of Hope Fellowship, made the confession Sept. 14, and the church's board of directors accepted his resignation, according to a letter sent to the congregation. Hope Fellowship is a nondenominational church that has two locations in Frisco, as well as locations in McKinney and Prosper, and online services, according to their website .

"Since this behavior disqualifies him from serving as Lead Pastor, he has resigned from Hope Fellowship," Hope Fellowship said in the letter and attached frequently asked questions. "No one on staff had knowledge of this moral failure before John’s confession.
