LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Tunnel to Towers Foundation welcomed U.S. Army Sergeant Jeremy Ramirez and his family back into their newly renovated home and surprised them by announcing the mortgage had been paid in full.

U.S. Army Sergeant Jeremy Ramirez was inspired to join the military by the role models in his life who served before him.

His decision was cemented 24 years ago when America was attacked on 9/11. He enlisted in the Army in 2005, drawn to the discipline, camaraderie, and sense of purpose that military life offered.

While deployed to Iraq, Sgt. Ramirez’s unit was ambushed in Baghdad and struck by a 500-pound pressure plate IED. The explosion claimed the lives of four soldiers and left Sgt. Ramirez and five others were severely injured.
