After the murders of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman , Ohio lawmakers want to increase the penalties for politically motivated violence.
Reps. Jack Daniels, R-New Franklin, and Josh Williams, R-Sylvania Township, are introducing legislation that would require anyone convicted of politically motivated murder to serve at least life in prison with the possibility of the death penalty.
Those who commit other violent crimes would face an additional 10 years in prison if the offense was politically motivated.
