Trey Knight’s first experience on the world stage finished with a 10th-place performance.
The 23-year-old hammer thrower from Ridgefield had his best throw of 76.11 meters (249 feet, 8 inches) on his second attempt in the finals of the world track and field championships Tuesday at Tokyo, but it wasn’t enough to advance.
He had qualified for the finals by placing in the top 12 on Sunday with a best throw of 76.40 meters (250-6), which came on the last of his three attempts.
The marks then reset for Tuesday’s finals. Knight threw 68.24 (223-9) on his first attempt, and 74.63 (244-8) on his third attempt.
Knight was 10th at that point and earned a fourth throw. Unfortunately his fourth attempt never made it out of the cage, hitting the side netting for a foul and his day was done.
