Paying to park close to the mall’s doors? Shoppers at one New Jersey mall weren’t having it, and now the revenue-making program is gone.
Deptford Mall recently quietly rolled out a “ Premier Parking ” program that charged drivers $10 to snag a spot near its entrances.
The spaces were marked with signs and QR codes that directed shoppers to a website, where they could enter a license plate and time slot before paying to park in the reserved front-door spots.
Mall officials have not said when the program began. But during the back-to-school rush last month, word spread quickly through news reports and social media about the $10 premier spots.
Macerich, the Phoenix-based company that owns Deptford Mall, said it ended the parking program this month after hearing feedback from the public
