A Bessemer woman has pleaded guilty in the hit-and-run death of a man killed while he was going to check his mail.
Tammy Tanner Albanese , 56, was texting on her cell phone when she fatally struck 55-year-old Teddy Eugene Self on Sept. 22, 2022.
Albanese on Monday pleaded guilty to reckless manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident causing injury or death.
Albanese was sentenced to 20 years in prison with three to serve for the manslaughter conviction.
For the leaving the scene conviction, she was sentenced to 10 years with two years to serve in community corrections to be served after her prison sentence, court records show.
Self was killed about 2:15 p.m. that Thursday in the 7000 block of Lock 17 Road in western Jefferson County.
