The U.S. Department of State has issued an updated travel warning for Sierra Leone.

The African nation has been issued a “Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution” warning, citing crime, civil unrest and inadequate health infrastructure, according to the DOS’ Travel Advisory Board .

“Violent crimes, such as robbery and assault, occur frequently in Sierra Leone, especially in Freetown. Police struggle to respond to serious crime in most places due to limited resources,” the warning reads.

Travelers are advised to not travel outside of the Freetown peninsula after dark and U.S. government employees are prohibited to do so. The U.S embassy is unable to provide emergency services outside the capital after dark.
