A 24-year-old clerk at a Florida Circle K has been arrested after confessing to killing an off-duty police officer inside the store this week, authorities say. Eduardo Machado allegedly ambushed the victim from behind and shot him multiple times, telling officers that he had been having "a bad day." Machado was taken into custody on Monday and charged with one count of first-degree murder in the slaying of 45-year-old Edgewater police officer David Jewell, authorities announced.

According to news releases from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, the fatal incident took place at about 4:08 p.m. inside the Circle K gas station in the 2400 block of Ocean Shore Boulevard in Ormond-by-the-Sea, Florida, about 65 miles northeast of Orlando.
