Norfolk County Sheriff Patrick McDermott is facing serious consequences after state officials found he misused campaign funds for personal and business-related expenses. The Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance (OCPF) announced that McDermott will pay more than $36,000 to resolve the violations.

According to the OCPF resolution, McDermott spent around $37,000 from his campaign account between August 2022 and the end of 2023—starting three months before he was elected. The funds were used for services tied to his private business, events and donations connected to his nonprofit, Norfolk Sheriff's Office Cares, and meals for a real estate meeting.
