A convicted Israeli con artist known as the “Tinder Swindler” was arrested last weekend by Georgian authorities.

Simon Leviev, who changed his name from Shimon Yehuda Hayut, landed at Batumi airport Sunday morning and was taken into custody.

“I spoke with him … after he was detained, but we don’t yet understand the reason,” his lawyer, Sagiv Rotenberg, told Israeli publication Walla , according to The Jerusalem Post . “He has been travelling freely around the world.”

According to O.C. Media , Georgia’s Interior Ministry cited a red notice from Interpol and arrested Leviev at the airport.

A 2022 Netflix film documented his years-long crime spree in which he duped women on the dating app Tinder by claiming he was the heir of the Leviev diamond fortune.
