On Aug. 28, Park City Mountain’s summer bike patrol won its vote to unionize. The new bargaining unit, the Park City Bike Patrol Association, will represent more than 50 bike patrollers.
The decision follows a summer of organizing by employees who also make up much of the ski patrol in the winter, represented by the Park City Professional Ski Patrol Association. Until now, those workers had union protections during the ski season but not in their summer roles.
Bike Patrol Organizing Committee member Drew Seitz, a fourth-year ski patroller and third-year summer patroller, described the summer union drive as a response to that gap in representation, wanting the same protections and bargaining power they benefit from in the winter year-round.
