PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Police have released the name of a man who died in a single-vehicle crash overnight in central Phoenix.

Phoenix police and fire crews responded to the crash just before 2 a.m. on McDowell Road near Central Avenue . The impact caused severe damage to the vehicle and destroyed a large palm tree.

Firefighters responded to the crash and pronounced the driver dead at the scene. He was the only person inside the vehicle during the crash.

He has since been identified as 25-year-old Angel Banuelos.

Detectives with Phoenix PD’s Vehicular Crimes Unit believe Banuelos was driving at a high rate of speed westbound on McDowell Road when he lost control, hit a curb on the north side of the roadway and collided with the palm tree.

McDowell Road was closed from Central to 3rd
