Hundreds of community members from southwest Louisiana gathered in Sulphur on Monday evening to honor the memory of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The vigil featured prayers from two area pastors, worship songs and a speech from Sulphur Mayor Mike Danahay.
"This is an opportunity for us as a community to reach into our hearts and find what is right for our community, for our state and for our nation," Danahay said.
The event was to c celebrate the life, work and memory of Kirk, Turning Point USA founder, who was shot and killed on Sept. 10 at the first stop of his “American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University.
One of the event's organizers, Rachel Daigle, said the event was also for Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and victims of recent school shootings.
