The Boston Red Sox are remaining patient with outfielder Wilyer Abreu.

Abreu is considered day-to-day to be activated from the injured list following his calf strain — which he suffered on Aug. 17 against the Miami Marlins — and should return to the lineup at some point during Boston’s penultimate home series against the Athletics.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora provided an update on his outfielder’s status Tuesday:

“(Abreu hit on Monday). He was a little bit sore, but not tight,” Cora said, as transcribed by Christopher Smith of MassLive. “I think it’s more about the workload on Sunday. He walked in (Tuesday) and said he felt better, so we’ll see what’s on the table and see where we’re at.”

Abreu has been eagerly awaiting his own return to the lineup, telling reporters over the weekend
