AUSTIN, Texas — Some people are unable to return to their homes after an apartment fire in North Austin on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Austin Fire Department (AFD), the fire happened at the Residences at The Domain, near the Louis Vuitton store.

AFD said the fire began in a concealed space between apartment units on the second and third floors. Crews were able to knock down the initial fire, but a second blaze was later found in the attic. Officials said the fire was caused by an electrical short inside a wall.

More than 100 firefighters responded to the scene. Crews said the fire was difficult to reach because it was trapped within the building’s walls.

One firefighter suffered a hand injury and was treated on site.
