CLOVIS, N.M. (KRQE) – A man from southern New Mexico was sentenced Tuesday morning after leading police on a high-speed chase in a vehicle with illegal firearms. Earlier this summer, Clovis police were called to a neighborhood to reports of gunshots coming from a vehicle. Officers pursued the vehicle until it crashed into a parked truck.

Three occupants in the vehicle fled on foot, including 39-year-old Jonathan Hay. He was apprehended a short time later at gunpoint.

Hay pleaded guilty to aggravated fleeing and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Judge Benjamin Cross sentenced him to 5.5 years behind bars. His accomplice, Michael Padilla, threatened to kill himself in a standoff with police but eventually surrendered to custody. The other woman in the car was not charged.
