NILES, Mich. (WNDU) - A woman has died from her injuries after she was hit by a car this morning in Niles.

It happened just before 7 a.m. at the intersection of Broadway and S. Third Street.

Investigators say 56-year-old Namita Smadder of Niles was crossing Third Street when she was hit by a car that was turning right from Broadway onto Third Street.

Police say Smadder was taken to a nearby hospital with serious head injuries. She was later transferred to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, where she passed away.

The crash remains under investigation. Police say the driver of the car was a 59-year-old Niles man.
