Phoenix leaders will vote on whether to rehire Ed Zuercher as the new city manager when they meet on Sept. 17.

Zuercher led the city as its chief executive for eight years before retiring in 2021 . Since leaving the city, he’s served as the Maricopa Association of Governments’ executive director.

If the council OKs Zuercher’s appointment, he’ll earn an annual salary of $415,542 starting Nov. 17, according to a draft of his contract . That's nearly $800 less than what his predecessor earned as of February, salary data that The Arizona Republic compiled shows.
