ERWIN, Tenn. (WJHL) — If anyone affiliated with the Erwin Police Department actually did submit fraudulent training documents, the consequences could be serious, a local criminal justice professor says.
Town of Erwin officials alleged in a Sept. 5 news release that now-fired Chief Regan Tilson filed in-service training claims with the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) for December 2024 training that did not occur. The revelation came in an unexpected add-on paragraph to a release providing results of an investigation into a separate allegation that Tilson failed a breathalyzer test while at work.
The allegations of improper submission of documents are currently being investigated by both the POST Commission and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).
