MORIARTY, N.M. —

An investigation is underway after a fatal plane crash in Moriarty.

There were two people aboard the plane and one died at the crash site, according to the Moriarty Fire Department. The other person was transported to a hospital and their condition is unknown.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane crashed after hitting power lines while trying to make an emergency landing in a field.

The Moriarty Fire Department says the plane experienced an engine failure.

The FAA says the flight activity was instructional.

The crash happened in the area of McNabb Road and Highway 41 around noon Tuesday, Sept. 16.
