Kate Middleton and King Charles III shared a royally sweet moment during an emotional event.

After attending the Sept. 16 funeral for Katharine, Duchess of Kent —the wife of Queen Elizabeth II 's cousin Prince Edward , Duke of Kent, the Princess of Wales was photographed putting an arm on her father-in-law's shoulder and keeping it there while kissing him on both cheeks and curtsying.

In response to the touching gesture, the 76-year-old monarch looked down for a moment before peering back at Kate, with his arm placed gently by her side.

As for Prince William , he looked somber while standing by the princess and his father during the funeral proceedings.
