LINN COUNTY, Ore. - The identity of a woman whose skeletal remains were discovered in 1976 near Wolf Creek has finally been uncovered, according to the Oregon State Police.

OSP officials said that the remains belong to Marion Vinetta Nagle McWhorter, who disappeared in 1974 at the age of 21. A moss hunter initially discovered the remains, prompting an investigation that spanned nearly five decades. Despite numerous efforts, McWhorter's identity remained a mystery until advances in forensic genetic genealogy provided a breakthrough. The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office worked with Parabon NanoLabs to produce a genetic profile, leading to the identification.
