WINDSOR HEIGHTS, Iowa —

Windsor Heights leaders voted Monday night to begin building their connection to Walnut Creek, marking the final suburban city to approve a new connection as part of Central Iowa's $125 million water trail project.

Most people drive over Walnut Creek or bike next to it, but that's changing in the western suburbs. Soon, families who play in Colby Park will have new direct access to Walnut Creek.

"Our kids love to get wet and to explore the creeks and just play and have fun. So I think they would just have a blast," said Alicia Hummel, of Windsor Heights.
