OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - As President Donald Trump launches a crackdown on crime in several American cities, he says he’s taking advice from Union Pacific’s CEO.

Last week, Trump announced he will send National Guard troops to Memphis — after he said UP CEO Jim Vena suggested he crack down on crime in the city.

The president said his call for federal forces in Memphis came after speaking with Vena, who previously worked in memphis as a member of FedEx’s board of directors. Vena reportedly told Trump that crime in Memphis was so bad he need a “armored vehicle with bulletproof glass” just to go a block down the road.

On Tuesday, the president signaled that he intends to deploy the National Guard to Chicago — also after speaking with Vena.
