Orelvis Martinez can officially begin his search for a new home.
The Toronto Blue Jays announced Tuesday that the infielder has cleared waivers and been released by the team.
Martinez was designated for assignment by the team last week when Alek Manoah was reinstated from the 60-day IL and optioned to triple-A Buffalo.
Martinez, who was at one point ranked second on the Blue Jays’ top-prospect list, played one game for the big-league team in 2024, where he recorded one hit.
His promotion came after finding some success at the triple-A level, slashing .267/.346/.523 with 17 home runs and 49 RBI in 281 at-bats.
He was suspended for 80 games after his major league debut in 2024 after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
