KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - At Moss Hill Elementary School, the batting cage next to the baseball field has been out of order for years. It has no net, has overgrown grass, and no baseball equipment, but soon that might change...

Grayson Currington, age nine, is a fourth grader at the school, and eats, sleeps & breathes baseball.

Right now, he is a quarterfinalist in Sports Illustrated’s 2025 Youth Athlete of the Year competition, and if he wins, he says he will use the $25,000 prize money to renovate the batting cage.

“So other people across this area, they don’t have to go across town to go to a batting cage, they can just come here,” Currington said.

Voting for his competition is open to the public and concludes this round at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
