A body was found Monday hanging from a tree on the campus of Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss.

“At approximately 7:05 a.m., university police was notified of what appeared to be the body of a black male hanging from a tree on central campus near the DSU pickleball courts,” Delta State University police chief Michael L. Peeler said during a news conference.

The person was identified as 21-year-old student Demartravion “Trey” Reed. The chief said there was no foul play and that Reed died by suicide.

“At this time, there is no evidence of foul play,” Peeler said. “But while there is no evidence of foul play, the body has been retrieved by the Bolivar County Coroner’s office. I have requested the assistance of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the Bolivar County Sherrif’
