The hockey world is mourning this week following the tragic news of Orca Wiesblatt.

Wiesblatt, an ECHL player, was identified as the man who died in a single-vehicle crash in Nanaimo on Sunday morning.

Hailing from Calgary, Alta., Wiesblatt was just 25-years-old and had played 138 games as a member of the Hitmen from 2017 through 2021.

The crash that claimed his life happened in British Columbia, Canada, according to the team.

“We are all heartbroken,” Americans head coach Steve Martinson said in a statement.

“Orca was really looking forward to this next step in his hockey career,” Martinson’s statement added. “He wasn’t just skilled, he was a momentum-changing hitter. I can still see his grin when he would return to the bench after one of his big hits. That is what we will miss the m
