Cumberland County celebrated a major milestone Tuesday, and it didn’t have anything to do with a new development, data center or warehouse.
Instead, county commissioners, Future Farmers of America (FFA) students, dignitaries and guests gathered at Lil’ Ponderosa Beef, an Angus cattle farm in Lower Frankford Township, to celebrate the preservation of more than 25,000 acres of farmland.
“I believe in the preservation of farmland,” said owner Bob Boyce, who has owned Lil’ Ponderosa Farm with his wife Kate for 39 years. “It’s vital to keep our rich soil for our farms forever.” The couple previously preserved 123 acres and has additional land pending for preservation.
Cumberland County commissioners first created the Agriculture Land Preservation Board & Farmland Preservation Program in Nove
