Coffee drinkers, the increase in coffee beans might leave a bitter taste, but local shops are trying to make it as smooth as possible. Coffee prices haven’t surged this much in decades
Nationally, coffee bean prices have jumped nearly 21% in August compared to a year ago. According to a recent study, that is the largest annual jump since 1997.
Recent tariffs put on imports are part of the blame for price hikes. Some local coffee shops are feeling the impacts. Director of coffee with Mayfly Coffee, owned by Cadance Coffee , tells Local 3 News the 50% tariff on Brazil imports is causing some to find an alternative.
“That’s also not including the 50% tariff for Brazilian coffee. 10% tariffs for countries in Central America, South America. So, some of them haven’t been hit as hard. W
