PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Several parents and coaches told KOIN 6 News that they are questioning why a registered sex offender was able to coach their kids at the Clark County Youth Football program.
Washington state does not have what's called proximity laws restricting offenders from places they can live or frequent.
A detective with the Clark County Sheriff's Office said offenders have no restrictions unless ordered by the court or the offender is on active supervision by the Department of Corrections.
"Just because you're a registered sex offender doesn't necessarily mean you cannot be around children," said Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Laurel Smith.
