A Sacramento County woman is challenging a California DMV decision to revoke her personalized license plate, “IAMISIS.” Isis Wharton, who says she was named after the Egyptian goddess of healing and motherhood, has used the plate since 2022. The DMV recently notified her that the plate could be seen as a reference to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and ordered her to surrender it or appeal by Sept. 25. Wharton says she never faced objections when the plate was first issued. The DMV says customers with flagged plates can request a hearing to challenge the decision.
