LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Two Fairdale High School seniors are using their own stories to help younger students feel seen during Hispanic Heritage Month.

On Tuesday, they read their new children’s book to a group of third graders at Indian Trail Elementary, hoping to spark empathy and pride.

“The main thing, very, like, thought about to write this book was our personal experiences,” said Aylin Munoz, one of the authors. “But other than that, we also thought about what other kids would have experienced in elementary school.”

The story follows Ximena, a newcomer navigating school in the U.S. and feeling isolated from her peers.
