AVONDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — One armed man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Avondale on Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called out around 1:30 to a neighborhood near 125th Avenue and Elwood Street , south of Lower Buckeye Road, because a man had a gun.

Investigators said when officers arrived, the man “posed a threat” with the gun and an officer responded by shooting him.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he later died. No officers were hurt.

The investigation is ongoing.

This is the 26th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County this year and the 56th statewide.
