LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- The federal trial of former Assistant District Attorney Gary Haynes continued today in Lafayette, in its second week with testimony from key witnesses.

Jurors heard from former Mayor-President Josh Guillory and city judge Michelle Miller as the trial focused on pretrial diversion referrals and internal communications within the District Attorney's office.

Prosecutors concentrated on the events surrounding a 2022 search warrant served on the DA's office, while defense attorneys argued that Haynes was not in control of the decisions being scrutinized.

The defense questioned witnesses about the handling of certain programs and pressed them on the timeline leading up to their departures, aiming to demonstrate that Haynes was not responsible for those decisions.
