There are two Senate bills sitting on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk that could reshape neighborhoods, one development at a time.

On Sept. 12, Senate Bill 79, originally introduced by Sen. Scott Weiner on Jan. 15, 2025, was approved by the legislature. Weiner, who represents most of the San Francisco Bay Area, wrote the bill with the goal of authorizing “more housing near our highest quality, highest capacity public transportation stops,” he said at the time on the Senate floor.
