A New Jersey man died of an apparent medical event while hunting bear in western Maine on Tuesday.

David Ridgway, age 69 of Bridgeton, New Jersey, was walking in the woods in Pierce Pond Township at about 8 a.m. when he collapsed, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti said in a news release.

Members of Ridgeway’s hunting group performed CPR, but he died at the scene according to emergency medical personnel who were dispatched to the location near the Dead River.
