FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - For a group of seniors, mornings at Cafe Van Ness are more than just coffee but also a place for friendship. However, speeding and distracted drivers are making it more and more dangerous for them to go about their daily routine.
84-year-old Pat Reeves says she’s been walking to Cafe Van Ness, cane in hand, for a decade. She still looks forward to her daily visits.
“This is almost like a second home here,” Reeves said.
But crossing nearby intersections has turned into a risk. Seniors say speeding cars and distracted drivers make it harder and harder to get across safely.
Reeves described a close call of her own.
“As I’m crossing Shields, a car is coming and she’s going way too fast, for one thing," Reeves said. "Luckily, she slammed on the brakes in time b
