LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A Lexington police officer has resigned for allegedly taking the drug kratom on duty.
Another officer filed a complaint against John Gibbons at the end of May.
That officer said Hibbons took kratom while on duty back in March, and sounded like he was having a seizure.
A supervisor found empty bottles of liquid kratom in Gibbons’ police car that night.
An investigation found Gibbons also crashed his police car after taking kratom in June 2024.
Gibbons also told police he believed he had taken kratom before another crash while he was on duty.
Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers recommended firing Gibbons from the force in July.
Gibbons formally resigned on August 8.
