ST. LOUIS – Resilient all season each time they appeared to be on the verge of falling completely out of the chase for the final playoff spot in the National League Wild Card , the Cardinals rode strong performances from rookies Michael McGreevy and Thomas Saggese on Tuesday to keep their postseason pulse thumping.

McGreevy threw seven innings of three-hit, shutout baseball and Saggese hit the first Busch Stadium homer of his young career as the Cardinals beat the Reds 3-0 on Tuesday night.
