As Miami-Dade County grapples with a difficult budget season, cities across the county are holding hearings to decide how to balance rising costs with community priorities for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2025.

The City of Miami opened its first budget hearing Saturday with a proposed $1.8 billion operating budget and $2 billion capital budget for FY 2025–26. Budget Director Marie Gouin outlined a 7.39 millage rate, meaning the average home assessed at $423,000 would owe $3,126 in city taxes. A $1 million home would pay $7,390.
