RUSSELL SPRINGS, Ky. —

A section of highway in southern Kentucky will now honor a former Louisville Metro Police Department officer who was killed in the line of duty.

US Highway 127 in Russell County was named in memory of Josh Phipps.

Phipps was a deputy with the Russell County Sheriff's Office.

He was shot and killed following a pursuit near Russell Springs in 2024. Tuesday marked one year since he died.

"The dedication, sacrifice, and the service that Josh made for this county and for the citizens of this county and the state of Kentucky," said Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston.

Phipps graduated from the LMPD academy in 2021. He worked with the department for about three months before resigning for personal reasons.
