FORT WORTH, Texas — In a packed Fort Worth City Council chamber Tuesday, Eddie Garcia returned to law enforcement as he was sworn in as the city’s new police chief .

Garcia, the former Dallas police chief, was joined by his family as city leaders praised his leadership and vision for the future of Fort Worth’s police department.

“As I put on this uniform today, I did get a little emotional, cause I was born to do this job, and this is my calling,” Garcia said during the ceremony.

Mayor Mattie Parker welcomed Garcia to the department, saying she is confident he can strengthen an already strong force.

“This is an amazing department you’re inheriting, but we’re hiring you because we know you can make it even better,” Parker said. “We’re so pleased you want to serve here in the city of F
