LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Bryan Health time capsule from 1987 was opened on Tuesday, as part of the organization’s 100th anniversary celebration this year.

The capsule was stowed away on June 5, 1987, where a crowd of employees, volunteers and members of the board of trustees gathered at Bryan East to fill it. At the time, Bryan Health was celebrating 60 years of service to the community.

Inside were photographs, that year’s fun run shirts, a volunteer smock, a brick from the 1926 energy plant and restraining straps from a psychiatric unit.

Several guests helped open the capsule Tuesday, including some who helped seal it more than 38 years ago. One of them was Dr. Aina Silenieks, who is retired now but was on Bryan’s medical staff in ‘87.
