Westernville, N.Y. — A 38-year-old man was shot Monday night after threatening another man and his family during a fight in Oneida County, state police said.

Around 7:40 p.m., troopers responded to a report of a domestic dispute with shots fired on Main Street in Westernville, according to a news release from Trooper Jennifer Jiron, a spokesperson for State Police.

The 38-year-old man went to the home of a 43-year-old man, where an altercation broke out, troopers said. During the fight, the victim threatened the man and his family.

The 43-year-old then fired multiple rounds from a shotgun loaded with birdshot, hitting the victim, troopers said. Birdshot is a type of ammunition used for hunting birds and small game.

The victim was taken to Wynn Hospital in Utica with non-life-threaten
