People claiming one means-tested benefit may be eligible for a free TV licence
Thousands of people born in 1950 may be entitled to a complimentary TV licence from this year. Those over 75 who receive Pension Credit qualify for a free TV licence, which usually costs £174.50.
Upon reaching 75, if you're receiving Pension Credit, you can request a refund for any remaining months left on your TV licence following your 75th birthday. You must have at least one month remaining on your TV licence to be eligible for a refund.
A TV licence is required to watch or record live television, or to view anything - whether live or on catch-up - via BBC iPlayer. If you exclusively watch programmes on catch-up through streaming platforms other than BBC iPlayer, no TV licence is necessary.
