STATEWIDE -- Maine is one of two states now embroiled in a lawsuit with the U.S. Department of Justice.
Tuesday, the Department of Justice announced lawsuits against Oregon and Maine, and their respective secretaries of state, for failing to provide information regarding voter list maintenance procedures and electronic copies of statewide voter registration lists.
The lawsuit against the state alleges that Maine and its Secretary of State Shenna Bellows violated the National Voter Registration Act, Help America Vote Act, and Civil Rights Act of 1960 by refusing to provide data regarding the removal of ineligible individuals. The suit also alleges failure to produce an unredacted, computerized state voter registration list.
