PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - As a high-profile investigation involving Pueblo’s previous coroner continues, a new coroner is set to take the vacant position.

On Tuesday, Pueblo’s county commissioners formally decided to appoint Dr. Greg Grahek to the position. The decision came after the interviews of five candidates and much consideration, not only on qualification, but also on who could best turn the page on what commissioners described as a dark chapter in Pueblo’s history.

“Public trust has been broken and there’s a deep sense of mistrust for many in our community,” Paula McPheeters, one of the commissioners, said.
