Manchester United were once blocked from signing Luis Suarez due to a transfer ban clause included in his contract.

The Uruguayan forward enjoyed six seasons at Barcelona , clinching four La Liga titles and the Champions League alongside football greats such as Lionel Messi. However, after the 2019/20 season, the ageing star was informed by manager Ronald Koeman that he was no longer needed and should find a new club.

However, the Catalans backtracked on an agreement to let him depart for free when they discovered he was on the verge of signing for La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid. Suarez had agreed to forfeit a portion of the wages owed to him in the final year of his contract, and in return, Barca would allow him to leave without a fee, provided he didn't join certain clubs.
