Two of the state's biggest universities are facing legal action. UNM and NMSU are being sued for not releasing how much they're paying their student athletes.
This summer, NMSU and UNM joined a federal class action lawsuit, House v. NCAA, which allows universities to pay their student athletes for their name, image, and likeness, known as NIL.
New Mexico Foundation for Open Government, a nonprofit organization, said they filed an Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) to see the revenue information between athletes and their institutions. IPRA allows access to public records of governmental entities in New Mexico.
